The 5 reasons you should go to Cornwall this summer

This summer looks like it might be a hot one. We have already had the hottest day in April in almost 70 years and have had one of the sunniest early May Bank holidays ever. That is why you probably – as us – can’t wait to head off to the beach! With its turquoise waters, breathtaking landscapes, vintage hotels and super pretty villages, Cornwall is at the top of our list for a vacation this summer.

Not convinced yet? Here are the 5 reasons why you must visit Cornwall.

1. Picturesque villages and delicious seafood

One of the most charming aspects of this region is its postcard-perfect towns, with their delicious seafood restaurants. Particularly beautiful is the seaside town of St Ives, known for its numerous galleries and exhibitions four fabulous beaches, with the UK’s mildest climate: Porthmeor, PorthgwiddenHarbour beachPorthminster.

You can enjoy a nice walk by the sea and some delicious fish and chips, but be aware of the seagulls, they are vicious!

2. Breathtaking landscapes

Almost one-third of Cornwall is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This means that the region is home to some of the most spectacular coasts, rugged uplands and lovely wooded river valleys. An absolute must has to be the coastal town of Newquay, with its unique landscapes and coastal walks.

While in Newquay, be sure to try one of the well known afternoon cream tea. Our personal suggestion is the Scarlet Hotel, where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset over the sea.

Another popular destination is the Bedruthan Steps. Wow factor doesn’t even begin to cover this incredible site. Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps is one of the most popular destinations on the Cornish coast and is an absolute must-see. The landscape is synonymous with shipwrecks and smugglers, and the spectacular clifftop views look out over Bedruthan Steps, where a rank of colossal, pointed stacks march out of the Atlantic waves against a dramatic backdrop.

If you fancy a thermal adventure, you should definitely try the Spa experience at the Bedruthan Hotel, which will help you stimulate your senses in their Sensory Spa Garden and leave you feeling relaxed and cleansed.

3. Arts

Cornwall can definitely be considered a land of arts and creativity. From the Tamar to Lands End, you will find quirky galleries, performance spaces, including indoor and outdoor venues, plus independent art studios, live music, cinemas and much more. There is Cornish literature, music and dance, world-class theatre companies and anything you can think of if you are a lover of the arts.

An absolute Cornish hidden gem is the Minack Theatre.

This outdoors theatre in Penzance is a unique venue perched on the cliffs high above, with a breathtaking view over the Atlantic ocean. They put on a full programme of drama, musicals and opera every summer, together with music, comedy and story-telling, a unique experience that literally takes you back in time. The Minack is open all year round for you to explore this amazing place and discover the incredible story of Rowena Cade who created the theatre. Definitely a must!

4. Beaches

With its clear turquoise water, Cornwall features some of the most beautiful beaches in the UK. You will find wide and sandy beaches perfect to enjoy the sun with family and friends, impressive cliffs with wild Atlantic waves crashing against them and an incredible coastline.

5. Stylish hotels

Cornwall is full of chic and beautiful hotels, which will make you feel as if you are not in the UK. For all Spa lovers and couples, The Scarlet Hotel and the Bedruthan Hotel on the north coast near Newquay are the places to be, with their clifftop hot tubs, sea views and cosy afternoon cream teas. If you’re looking for breathtaking coastal views over Newquay, the Atlantic Hotel is an excellent option, while if you are more for a cosy romantic retreat in the countryside, the Budock Vean Hotel and Talland Bay are definitely worth checking out.
