Two days in Amsterdam at the Andaz

Surrounded by the city’s iconic canals, Andaz Amsterdam sits in the historic centre of Amsterdam, right next to the eclectic shops of Nine Streets and the modern collections at the Stedelijk Museum.

The hotel occupies a 35-year-old library building in the centre of Amsterdam and features 122 pet-friendly guestrooms and suites. Around the hotel’s every corner, from the lifts to the bathrooms, you’ll discover unique works of art including magical murals, wallpaper stories and sculptural furniture, designed by Dutch designer Marcel Wanders.

Our stay

We arrived quite late in the evening after our flight from London City Airport, so we decided to dine in our room in order to relax before wandering through the canals the next morning.

We had breakfast at the beautiful Bluespoon Restaurant, also designed by Marcel Wanders.

What is really impressive about the hotel is the lobby. The centrepiece of the lobby is an installation modeled on a constellation of stars and planets. Positioned below a large skylight, the suspended objects and lighting are intended to remind visitors of old-fashioned astronomy.

The bar is also very fashionable and the atmosphere is very vibrant during the evenings, which makes it a perfect spot to enjoy some cocktails!

After a really satisfying breakfast, we headed off to the canals. The best thing about Amsterdam is that – like Venice – you don’t really need to have a destination, but you can just wander through the canals and always bump into something beautiful.

We were fortunate enough to find a nice sunny day, which makes all the difference in the world while in Amsterdam!

By the evening, we were exhausted after all the walking and couldn’t wait to have dinner in the Bluespoon Restaurant.

We went for the 4 course wine pairing menu, which we strongly recommend. The truffled gnocchi were absolutely to die for and the Entrecôte was so tender that you could cut it with a spoon!

We ended the night with a walk along the canals, with the lights that made it just so romantic.

We ended our stay at the beautiful Andaz Amsterdam with our last breakfast before heading off to the airport to fly back to our beloved London.

We definitely recommend this breathtaking hotel when travelling to Amsterdam, as you will feel as if you have just landed into a Dutch wonderland!
